Praise Come Again

Praise the heady days

Come again

When young women

Full of themselves

In the best possible

Meaning of the phrase

Saunter boldly, playfully,

On cold winter sidewalks

In their own good company

Declaring among themselves

Loud enough for all to hear

There’s no room in my uterus for religion

This poem reminds me of my daughter. When she is with her young women friends, they are boisterous and full of themselves (in a joyful way)...

Is the last line an observation of how religion silences women?

I find it an interesting and compelling progression - from a happy pack of women talking loudly to - no room for religion in utero.

Thanks,
Roy.

Roy, so glad to evoke Kelly for you. I shifted the poem a tiny bit, one better word choice. I assume that these women's comments were about abortion and a woman's right to choose, not the Catholic Church's.
